Roll On: Why I Hate Disqus and Google+ Commenting System

May 30, 2017

I'm writing this on my phone - right now at 1230 am and I'll regret this. Damn that coffee.

A week back, I put Disqus commenting system on my blog as I always loved how interactive the commenting system is. I was holding back before since I thought I'd lose my old comments but apparently in the process of installing it, they have an option to sync back all those comments.

What a splendid thing it is!!

A couple of days later I was so bummed not getting any comments after an intense blogwalking session (haha sungguh tak ikhlas). I then decided to check each one of my newest posts and to my surprise there are some comments but I totally didn't get any notification whatsoever. I have then tried to set an email notification but that didn't work out too. I finally asked Eyqa and she told me to check this part of Disqus commenting system and I found those notifications which is actually the very first thing that I checked for to see if anyone comment in my blog. At the time, I mean after Eyqa has been so darling to actually give me the exact link, I thought I was so stressed out before that I just mislooked it initially? But later, still no notification.

Apparently, those comments that I thought I have mislooked were only there because I either upvote it or reply to it after I rechecked my posts one by one before.

It was damn annoying.

I then Googled the issues and found out some peoples have the same problem. Apparently, something about being a Google product that made Blogger not working well with Disqus. Even when Disqus say they can. One guy actually asked Disqus and said that Disqus notified the issue but there isn't any work done to improve it. I guess fighting Google kinda isn't really a good thing to spend time on. Another issue is that the mobile version of our blog won't show up Disqus commenting system. I thought that my phone was so cikai that is why I can't seem to load the commenting system.

So afterward, I gave up Disqus commenting system. I was also so excited to have that upvote option and to edit back my comments. Boo hoo.

There are other options for third party commenting system but the ones that really relevant to my status are Disqus, Facebook commenting system and Google+ commenting system. Facebook is totally out of the picture which left me with Google+ ones. Even though missing the chic design of Disqus and the upvote option, it is actually a better choice because the comment was set into Google+. That means each comment will be seen on our Google+ account. Since most Malaysian bloggers used that and because I am using Google+, it will improve my SEO stuff.

So I change to Google+ commenting system and wallah, it does not show up!

More Googling shows that pre made templates, like mine, usually have this issue. Yay.

Even more Googling to fix it shows that I need to put this one line of codes which is somehow wrong (I have even Google the corrent <div> tag and that didn't work out too). I Google some more and all suggest the same code as a solution that didn't bring any solution to me. Yay. Check the codes HERE, maybe you'll have better outcome than me.

The actual solution? Back to basic.

Since Disqus commenting system not only failed to give out any notification, it also somehow messed up my comment and Google+ commenting system wasn't showing up on my pre-made template, it is back to basic for me.

My basic Blogger commenting system.

Pftt.

p/s: I still have my hope with Disqus. I will try it some more later on. Do share any tips pleaseeeeeeeee.

  1. Try intense debate. Hehe. well I kinda like the old blogger comment system too. Used in back day where disqus still can be access using the admin moderation panel in mobile, but it all changes since the latest update.

I just realize I cant open the moderation panel using my mobile after moving into wordpress. Hence the wordpress had been integrated with the disqus comment so notification does not seems a problem here.

I think Fatina still use disqus in her blogspot. I'll ask her later to check on your post so she can share a bit about it.

    Keep calm and pray. :D

    1. oh do help. Disqus issues seems petty enough if I got the heart to through it and seriously I so in love with it so totally gonna try it again. I don't think Intense Debate would suit me though.

    2. Pypa, i check back ur post cause i've been try the moderation link and I can access sudah thru mobile. Yeayy!

I think I forgot to tell you about the notification part while im integrate disqus in blogger. back then I used to starred the approve moderation panel on my mobile chrome and detect new comment or my reply on the sites.

Its kind of menyusahkan jugalah cause need to open comment system at another sites instead of just the blogger itself.

But I still stick to it cause I have fun interact directly with other commentors without need to check on the sites first. i just need to check the moderation panel sites. 😅 but its up to you hehe.

  4. I've seen a lot of bloggers on blogger platform that used disqus but have no problem with it so it's really weird why only your blog had a problem with it.

And this is a secret between you and me but I didn't like Google+ comment system because it looks ugly lol

    1. I don't think it is a secret at all, it is actually ugly lol. It will ruin my blog atmosphere and I only considered it because how it will improve my traffic and of course because I was so bummed about Disqus. Anyway, I do notice some bloggers can work well with Disqus so that why I think I'm gonna give it a try again. I have to be more prepared of course.

  10. Siqah suka disqus commenting system sebab tak perlu nak refresh each time reply komen. Cuma yang buat Siqah tak berkenan dengan Disqus adalah kena login dan nanti susah nak BW blog pengomen. Takde link kat kat disqus system? Ke ada tapi siqah yang tak tahu? Hehe.

Hope hubungan Afifah dengan Disqus kembali pulih nanti =D
